>he's in the Navy reserve and gets deployed to the Middle East a year and a half later
>miss out on a few years with him while growing up because of the ongoing conflicts in that part of the world
I've never talked to him about that story but its always been a funny thing in the back of my head. He probably got so upset because he knew that the attack would mean him getting activated and deployed and missing out on childhood moments with us kids. He tried his best to make up for it, and I love him tons
