it's the upvote/downvote system, they try to one up each other

i never liked reddit, too much hivemind and attachment to accounts. 4chan is better, everybody's thread gets the same opportunity to shine and with no accounts only the content of a post matters, not who said it

you can call someone a fucking moron in one thread and laugh with him and think he's a total bro in another. over time i think it teaches people to respect others better, that one trait does not define one's character
