Use this thread to post any free resources or anything else that you'd want to share with your fellow anons. Textures, materials, brushes, models, references, tutorials, anything that you think might benefit another anon, please post it here.
It might help to check the pastebin before you post, in case there might be duplicates, but it's not a problem if you don't.

Updated the pastebin so it's less of a mess and is actually organized.
Anything that's added to the thread that's not on the list will be added when I get around to it.

I heard there are some out there, but can't google anything.

What?
Just look up sfm shit on rule34 or tbib.org.
Or just go on the same kind of thread on /gif/
It's porn, it's all over the place. Really don't know why you couldn't have asked somewhere more relevant to your fapping needs.

If you're gonna use nsfw sfm stuff as a reference, use them as an example of what NOT to do.
Just use regular porn as a reference.

As for resources, try smutbase. They have some tutorials there I think.

sketchfab has a big collection of 1700 historical free models and random things that are all CC0

From the first line in the Pastebin
>Almost everything on this list should be free. That doesn't mean it's CC0, so if you're wary about copyright, it might be a good idea to check first.

>>728234
It's no worries, It's been a pretty useful resource. Feel free to stick around and post things as you find them! I'll put it in the list!
But yeah, thanks for starting the original thread! Hopefully this one sticks around for a few years too! Or even better, reaches the post limit quicker with all sorts of cool stuff!

Maybe this isn't the right thread, but Wikimedia for me is an essential resource. For some things I model, I couldn't do without it. It is immensely helpful for finding high quality reference material for almost anything you can think of, especially vehicles. Top tier stuff.

This is exactly the right thread. There's a reference section in the pastebin that's perfect for this (if it's not already there).

What resources here are verified to be virus free? I don't want to fuck up my computer trying to learn 3d

>> No.732379

>>732274
there is a virus that corrupts all your 3DS Max or Maya files, that has been in some uploads so watch out for those. If the file is .obj or .FBX then you don't have to worry. Tutorial are also safe since they are just MP4s.

>> No.732424

>>732274
None of the links are links to any "shady" sources if that's what you mean. It's all sites that offer their content for free, or have free stuff offered along side paid content. Not any pirate sites or anything like that, so the chances of actually downloading something that's infected is pretty much zero. Most, if not all of the links in the pastebin have been in the previous thread for the past 2 years so >>732379 (assuming it's a fairly recent thing), aren't going to be infected like he says.
Always use your best judgment online though, if a site looks sketchy, best not to dl anything from it.

the virus that corrupts all your 3DS Max or Maya files (I think it was only Max), that I was talking about was in some torrents of 3D models from a few years ago. I didn't check the pastebin but I doubt it has it, especially if its free resources.

>> No.732544

>>732518
Yeah there's no torrents at all in the pastebin. That's not really what it's for. It's free stuff in the legal sense, not the ol' five-finger discount sense.

so all the textures and other stuff are legally free or what? too good to be true desu

>> No.733696

>>733694
Yeah, of course. The pastebin does say though that the licenses and stuff may (and will) be different, so it's best practice to check which license whatever you're downloading falls under if you're concerned with that sort of thing. But in the sense of "are these pirated assets or stolen textures" the answer is no.
All this is, is a list of things that are put up for free by the creators/owners that would be useful for 3d.

If you're not doing commercial work though, do whatever you want. You only really need to check licenses if you're getting paid.

Does anybody have a link to a good LOW POLY mechanica/industrial/tech kitbash? Hell I don't even care if it's free, I'll pay under $20.

I trying to throw a robot together, I have a rough sculpt but can't be assed to model all the parts. I spent my hard earned shekels and bought 2 kits off CG trader, but the fucking things are so high poly they can be rendered as a weird sci-fi cyberpunk cityscape. I need something that looks meh up close but decent enough to be usable over 50 times on just the face alone. But these kits I have are about 300 pieces and are over 17mil total polys. Like a fucking philips head screw head, doesn't even haven the screw, just the head, is fucking 10k polys. Shit is wild.

I did, they all have the same issue, they are extremely well detailed thus when I use 50 screw heads or anything else, I get over a million polys on just them. And that's just one asset. Those are great for larger scale, like legs or feet or torso, but on the head, inside the mouth piece, having small parts with 10s of thousands of polys on them is a huge waste of an already limited cpu power.

It is fun to render them though

>> No.737518

>>737475
That's because you're not really supposed to use geo to make screws.
Make a circle, stick a texture with a normal/displacement map on it and call it a day.
No one cares about fully modeled screws unless they're huge and used as a focal point.

>> No.738310

best site for texutures?

>> No.738330

>>738310
I start with CC0 Textures, then Texture Haven. If they don't have what I need, then I move onto textures.com. They almost certainly have what I need, with the only caveat being you can only download a certain amount and at a certain resolution.

Most of the time it doesn't matter much since it'll be tiled, and odds are it's a niche object in the first place that won't be very big.

Nowadays though, I just doubled down and got a Quixel membership, it's not too expensive compared to what I make now so it made sense. It's not bad, though it's really lacking on shit like plastics and rubber. And the 3d assets are hyper-specific so they're not really useful either.
