Install Godot, they'll have occlusion culling and C# in the next release

It's amazing how one person, with a high end computer, can make a triple A looking game on their own these days.

Soon, it'll be one hour to draw guides for a 100x100 km forest, and the trained AI will place everything for you.

If I'm not wrong, it's already possible for terrain.

Quick and easy is also boring and generic.
It shows very well in triple a games because they look beautiful at first glance and in screenshots but when you actually move through the world they've created and "explore" you find it's completely shallow and repetitive with little to no effort put into making a place that feels lived in or with any kind of backstory. It's just a vapid shell. A thin texture standing between you and the abyss.

>> No.718611

>>718610
I have the same issues with using Technology to draw compared to drawing by hand, mainly using pencils. Get a tablet and pen then get ready to make the most generic shit in your life, the need for craft and mastery is thrown out the window if you know anything about drawing shit correctly.

More like realism is soulless. 3D games like The Witness has more soul than most AAA games

>> No.718615

>>718611
The difference in that case is that you're still creating stuff yourself.
Procedural generation is literally letting a computer piece shit together for you.

>> No.718618

>>718615
Stuff like shading, manipulating the size of your lines, mirroring (When it comes to anatomy) and understanding perspective are all given a backseat since most drawing programs give you tools sufficient enough to bypass learning them. Why practice drawing 1 line 1000 times when you can undo if you mess up in the slightest? The only thing that can make you stand out is your art-style, but nobody is creative anymore. (See psychicpebbles, JamieR)

Only time I can appreciate is when someone animates in 2D, a medium which realistically nobody has the time to do by hand (unless your Studio MDHR)

I remember playing with Terragen back in 2004. It could make mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, and all kinds of clouds, just from setting up some parameters (which took about an hour). Now it's on version 4 and it can make ecosystems as well.

So look, I get that this a shitpost but for reals, that statement is totally not true. And if I'm wrong or naive, please explain. I remember as a kid, I would've killed to be able to make these kinds of things. And now as a fag who loves 3d, I love that I can create something this amazing with just my shitty computer I look up pics to jerk off around and to make music with.

>> No.721225

>>718459
why is it that most Blender users you come across don't actually have any art skills and merely make technically impressive renders of real life objects (having their hand held along the way)
i feel like this is what leads to realism being seen as "soulless", especially with the comically low barrier of entry and the copious amounts of pre-made assets available online

>> No.721230

>>721225
Without the barrier of commercial viability, most art in general is mediocre. The reason why Blender is overrepresented in the amateur 3D community is because it's free, lightweight, and not feature-limited for beginners. You see the same thing with indie games, even for game engines popular in the industry.

I thought I'd be doing this sort of stuff when I went to school for it. Years later and I was just a human machine drawing mouth shapes, tracking little dots and irises for face mocap on marvel movies.

Haven't opened a CAD program in 4 years now.

Have you even meet a 2D artist in your life?
Sure, having a tool like a computer give you a big advantage but if you don't know about anatomy, perspective, color theory, composition, etc. no matter how many cores your PC have you are never gonna make it.

>> No.721973

>>721958
This. If you're not an artist, forget it. The computer does nothing.
