It's money laundering / money hiding and tax evasion, simple as that.

I guarantee most of these 'artists' on a first name basis with the initial buyers of their work.

It most likely is a money laundering scheme for most.
I doubt the artists know the buyers, that doesn't really matter if this is just about tax evasion.
It has some resemblance to contemporary art market money schemes but def is different, and even less regulated.
This all will trigger a financial investigation, I'm sure of it. The NFT boom will not be without consequences.

Yet, the money is real.
It always perverse seeing this much money flowing around while most of us live minimum wage or the eternal lie of a middle class.

C4D seems perfect, I've been lurking for years and never really tried any of the programs but I've watched tutorials on how to do advanced shit in several of the popular programs, and watching someone use C4D is the first time I've felt excited/compelled to get started using this type of software.

I'm particularly interested in making dumb little GIFs like these NFTs as content for my IG/website, but I'm more interested in making product renderings (I sell my own CADD designs with 3d printing) for my website, with crazy abstract artistic effects for the renders that I could never achieve in real life.

I'm also a music producer and see potential for making abstract album art and VDJ loops.

Do you still think C4D would be a bad option for me? What would you suggest in its place and how do they stack up against each other?

I have no confidence as of now in the community and it's system
You can just download the high-res display file of the nft freely, instead of actually buying the nft, thus making the NFT's value redundant
There's a strong consensus that this is money laundering. Perhaps even the artists/traders may know their buyers criminal intentions, and are in on it.
There will be an investigation when the social media famous get on the bandwagon, and when NFT popularity turns exponentially. People will get arrested, the people that know them will panic. Shit will stir.
Throw in the fact that a chunk of the NFT's are of poor taste, memes that will age poorly, and of bare creativity, and there's a Bubble coming out of the stirring pot.
That said, I love cryptoart for giving crypto ACTUAL VALUE. But I can't trust NFT's cause of the above.

A few months ago before they really took off I would watch the bids on some of these things, and it was all VCs and hedge funds that were also invested in the NFT platforms and Ethereum/crypto in general. They were seeding this little economy with the hopes that it would grow much larger and eventually the volume would be more organic. To them a few million here and there is nothing, since they're expecting a return via the platform equity / trading fees. They also did it to get those "$x million spent on a JPG" headlines to spark the goldrush. And it all worked. I'm seeing mediocre artists make close to a million dollars in ETH, and instead of cashing out, they turn around and invest in other artist NFTs to keep the game going. Eventually sellers run out of greater fools and these illiquid JPGs will become unsellable. Infinite supply of shit artists and very little organic demand, at least at these valuations. Cryptopunks are already being repriced lower. Who knows how long the bubble will last but I cringe when I see artists quitting their day job, thinking this is a sustainable source of income.

As with non-crypto art, even a technically perfect copy has no value if it's not approved/signed by the author. So those copies being easy to make shouldn't be an issue.

This is a position that I personally find weak to hold. But as long as the market agrees with it, I won't care.

>> No.807679

>>807674
To add, the "money laundering" thing people keep mentioning here is probably overstated. It's closer to a pump and dump / wash trading / painting the tape, etc, which happens a lot in crypto markets as a form of advertising whatever speculative vehicle. The top influencers that are raking in money through this are being used by these whales for their massive audiences. They find an artist who is the shelling point of a particular community and they make them rich, so they start going on twitter to boast about it. The art itself is irrelevant. In fact, the shittier the artwork they're bidding up is, the more of the "hey I can do better than that" effect takes hold, and more people hop in.

1. dont report or under-report crypto holdings for years or even decades.

3. Purchase NFT from yourself after anonymizing through XMR + tornado cash
4. You now have $1mm from one transaction that you cash out and pay taxes on.

>> No.807765

yes, depending on the auction the bidder is typically anonymous. the people currently pumping ETF bids are the artists themselves, the blockchain techs, and speculative investors (which is a diverse pool of interests).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dK5zh8ZTKO0
this does a good job explaining the people that run the art "market" - their job is to turn artists into stocks which accrue value in time, getting money invested from a list of speculators at the start. That's the real logic of EFTs. Launder money, or invest/accrue value.

Simp and cope harder, faggot. You can clearly see in her eyes the despair of lacking the time, and the will, to read. Every time she records a new ""art"" piece, she sees her untouched library in the cam preview, cries, and tries to quell her pain by eating stupid fruit. That's what makes her art powerful: it's a reflection on the inescapable battle between the aspiration and the practical that we all, as humans, all experience; and a display of failure both as a falling, and the opportunity that therein lies for growing in a new, stronger direction.

You would make the mistake of underestimating the power of her work because, when viewed without this context, it's not a beautiful thing; you wouldn't be the first person to underestimate the power of the work of someone whose primary identity is the artist.

Yet the beauty of Kathy's work is not only in its inherent beauty, but because it's a reflection of how we all deal with failure and the future; when you understand the pain in what she puts on screen, you have a new understanding of both how her work and her life are connected, and what drives her; as both an artist and a human being, she isn't someone with a story; she's a person, and that's what makes her work.
