Will blender eventually reach a point where even if is not the best tool in the industry will be good enough for like 99% task you will need in the industry?

Not the best, but like good enough for 99% of taks?

No because blender will always be poopie poopie bad-bad

even if big budget movies have already used it, even if large game studios have been using it for years and continue to give money to the blender foundation, even if autodesk is trying to price itself out of the market with predatory subscription practices and has literally been buying out competition (only to then shut that competition down), it doesn't matter because blender is bad and will always be bad and anyone who uses it is a baddy bad-bad

This but unironically. Though I think Blender will get to a point where it will be feasible for most things, it will take a literal generation or two to live their lives and die before it comes to real prominence. You notice this all the time with FOSS, Blender is actually one of the few who has still stood the test of time, minus linux and etc. The point here is that Blender has been bad for so long, literal decades, that even if people were willing to try it from the old guard, which many are, they will be more comfortable with their Autodesk, zBrush, Mari, etc. As of now it is still a mediocre software that is a poor mans jack of all trades. It is definitely getting better in the past five years, but it's not there yet, nor are the people who do 3D.

Why can't Autodesk buy Blender Foundation and shut it down?

It will be then inmediatelly forked.

Not if Autodesk happens to have a patent covering some core functionality of Blender.

GPL fucktard

>>761048
how are they gonna patent an open source project?

>> No.761076

>>761050
You don't patent free software, you bring out of the archive some patent covering functionality in Blender's core and announce litigation against anybody distributing previous versions or new forks.

Only The Man in the High Castle and Next Gen, Ubisoft is moving to Blender and Sega at some point used blender in their pipeline too, there's also that chink anime studios and a couple of South American movies nobody cares too, and lots of indie games, I think that's all.

>> No.761101

>>761089
And lots of artists in outsourcing studios using it, which means it has been used in much more AAA games than you'd think.

Next Gen looked like fucking shit.

>Ubisoft is moving to Blender
No they are not - stop spouting nonsense - they have an in house animation studio that does some stuff with Blender.
ALL the game development pipelines are still using everything else BUT Blender.

<3 Blender, and especially Blender haters

>> No.763437

Nope. It does most things but not nearly to the degree required in production. Substance and Mari blow it out of the water when it comes to texturing, Houdini murders it with fx and cfx, Clarisse and Katana can deal with massive scenes that Blender can't even load. You need specialized tools that do one thing but do it well. You can't have a jack of all trades software.

We'll have to see

>> No.763882

>>763445
we already are seeing
blender would have to improve at like 10x the speed it currently is in order to catch up
I mean even industry bigwigs like Autodesk are starting to fall behind, the 3D software industry is highly competitive now
