How the fuck does this software not have an easy way to zero the origin point like blender? I spent an hour looking for a way to do it so I could export environments as fbx files without having to manually place objects back. The only thing I found were dead links to a script and people saying manually drag it to the center using the joint tool. Fuck that. I can put it in blender, hit the A key, then right click and click set origin. It’s that easy. I see why people shit on daz so much.

Look up "DaztoBlender 2.8". You can buy it , or if your google-fu is decent you can get creative.
It's split in 2 parts. A Daz script for exporting everything about your character, and a Blender addon for importing it in.
It auto-rigs characters (with everything being great except the arm IK's , which have no elbow pole targets), it handles materials really well, and the addon comes with a menu interface to tweak materials without having to go into the blender node wrangler.
Ok, I'm done shilling.

I literally don't "get" your points.
AFAIK characters in Daz with numbers after their names are themed templates.
You have "standard teenager", "standard strong guy" , "standard old guy", "standard alien girl" .
They're meant as an average representation of that specific archetype. So yeah, "standard woman in her late 40's " is gonna look like standard woman in her late 40's.
If you want "hot version of woman in her late 40's" , they have that included in the pack.
https://www.daz3d.com/shop/camilla-for-aubrey-8

I literally don't get you saddo coomers. Want to have women that look like real-dolls / anime waifus? There's a template for those, along with a ton of character variations.
https://www.daz3d.com/aiko-8-pro-bundle
Want to jerk off to Pixar women? There's a template for that.
https://www.daz3d.com/the-girl-8-pro-bundle

Realistically aged women with realistic imperfections and blemishes also get a template, the same way "comic book strong guy with biceps big as his head" gets a template.

Yeah I have been playing around meshgrabber really impressed someone managed to get to working inside Daz.
I have a feeling Daz will buy them up.

Biggest uses I have found for it aside from fixing slight collision errors that would otherwise take endless hours of fiddling, is lifing clothing ever so slightly in parts, even easier with rotation now. Before it having to take something to MD just to make it look like someone was holding something was annoying.

I tried to cobble together a rough "Gwynevere outfit" from a lot of fantasy gear I got. I intended to import it to Blender and cutaway all the excess parts, but Daz crashes when I try to export.

Yeah, the large bits of cloth are actually the bits I want to remove (and the bits I suspect are causing Daz to crash) . For example the large cape is worthless to me, I just want the part that drapes over her shoulders.

I found a hack-y workaround by exporting my model in parts. Once for the body, once for the bandages and trims, once for the hood, once for the shoulder cape etc.

The whole reason WHY I'm really set on taking the assets from Daz and going through the exporter is I really love the weight painting and parenting that it does, and doing that by hand from a blank model would be hell

However, using shells, you can bring it in cleanly. I'm still trying to figure out how to texture paint so as to blend the textures nicely. Still have no fucking clue what I'm doing, so no surprises there.

To be more accurate, check the "width/size" option for your point light. Point lights don't work at all with pathtracing, which iray uses, so your "point lights" need really not to be points but spheres with a volume. This wouldn't be a problem if the default volume used by Daz wasn't something like 1 picometer cube.

You can cranck your picometer cube of light all you want, it's still a picometer cube of light. Most of the time you want to tweak the volume of the light, not the illumination.

I feel like a lot of people in these threads are new to 3d and character stuff in general. Everyone is excited and eager to make some lewds. I get it, I often indulge in cooming as well.

But I feel like a lot of people have these misconceptions about the human body and its abilities. One of the most common ones I see, is when a character is holding something, like a sword, a pole, a horse dildo, you name it. A lot of the time, they hold it with their wrist bent to the absolute max, a very uncomfortable position. That always takes me out of the immersion, makes me cringe.

So to help some people out, I decided to make this info-graphics. Hope this helps people get a better idea about wrist posing. Remember the human wrist BARELY has 30 degrees of side to side swing. When something has to be held at an angle the fingers have to be rearranged to accommodate the object. Try it yourself, grab the TV remote and try to hold it like a sword, but like in the top image. It's uncomfortable as all hell.

Also the wrist twist. 99% of the twisting motion in the wrist is actually just inherited from the forearm. The wrist itself is only able to do like 15 or so degrees of twist.

Personally hate using SB, I got a shitload of obtained characters to use as skins instead.

I use MD but not sure I see the benefit of your pose first method. All my clothes I just make on gen8female base so I can reuse, then fit and can load on my character. Then after posing, I take the posed avatar and the clothing into MD and sin the clothing to load back as a morph.
It becomes much faster in the long run to do multiple poses and making sure the clothing is simmed in each.
Sometimes dforce is enough if the clothing piece is not too complex, but always create my clothing with the ability to reimport to MD in mind.

Fuck shoes brother

I noticed that too.

I personally think something changed in 4.8 or 4.10. Before, a 4 GB VRAM scene took ~4 GB of sysRAM, which is somewhat logical. I don't know what changed and can't be bothered to read the patchnotes, but nowadays the same 4 GB VRAM scene takes 16 GB of sysRAM.

I personally believe Daz is using Iray incorrectly, probably telling the renderer to copy textures several times for optimization and forgetting to release the memory or sending improper parameters. Or it could just be that the last versions of Iray is shit regarding sysRAM.
