This is 100% autodesks fault for going full retard and charging such exorbitant amounts for subscriptions and eliminating perpetual licenses. its true blender is much harder at the beginning but once you make the transfer to 100% keyboard function its very convenient.

i don't even bother with 2.8 actually. its full of gimmicks and i don't really need those for my work which is video editing and 2d effects

>> No.694729

>>694722
I have to disagree. Maya is intuitive and comfy (leaving crashy and history-deleting shit beside). ZBrush is not intuitive at first, but after a bit of muscle memory gains it becomes comfy too, if used with a tablet of course. And Houdini, well, Houdini is pure honey made by angel bees and delivered to my taste buds by the Holy Spirit itself.

Blender is however a ticking frustration bomb. If you choose to take it seriously, that is.

Do you use any special addons? I cannot get transitions and such to work, like fade-ins. The fades always start on the wrong frames or attach to the wrong clips. I've used Power Sequencer for some things but it doesn't always seem to work.

This. When you purchase an electric drill for instance, there is absolutely no difference between that tool being activated with a single button located where your index finger would be when holding it, or it having voice controls that listen to the sound of three chords that have to be played in sequence on a nearby five string violin, which isn't noted anywhere in the manual.

>exorbitant amounts for subscriptions and eliminating perpetual licenses.
I'm a GNU extremist.
Subscriptions are unacceptable and pure slavery.
I hope GPL will kill and replace all proprietary software while it committes suicide with subscriptions.

Think about it!
subscriptions:
>Are the end of innovation. Why improve your software if you will get the same money from the same people because of subscriptions?

>Why not increase the price of the subscriptions to hell and back? What are the users going to do? Stop using your product?
with perpetual licences you can sit on the old versions and keep on using them.
In the world of SAAS you have no power and own nothing.

I hope proprietary software kills itself with SAAS and only GPL stays.

>How am I enslaved
Because the mega corporation that own the software dictates what you will pay for it in the cancer that is SAAS. You are a slave that celebrates not having any power. And have fun the corporate owners taking the software into retarded directions or jacking up the price of the subscription until you scream.

>>698294
>Cry me a river poorfag
The price of blender is the least of its benefits since you are expected to pay for blender. Its all about the GPL.

>> No.698321

>>698313
>if you don't think its coming out of your paycheck then you are retarded.
To be fair, more money is "lost" to capitalist extraction (aka business profit) than to licensing. Using Blender wouldn't change this -- if you're working for a studio and it were to switch to Blender, most probably your salary would remain the same.

Even if you freelance, things don't change. True, you'll be saving in the license. But what would you prefer, pay $1500/year and earn $40K, or pay $0/year and earn $20K? The market for work done in Blender is very limited.

>> No.698328

>>698321
I'm just pointing out that the "lel my employer pays for it so its FREEEEE" is retarded and should never be brought up especially that in the age of SAAS the developer can jack up the prices into crazy land.

This is the idea behind foss and the GPL its to actually own the software since no linux distro can pull shit like this and like pointed out you are expected to pay for blender or linux in the form of donations.

some idiots decide to be freetards:

I'll admit I have shitposted in this thread, but it's been mainly to mock Khara's CGI in the eva films, and mock Japan's CGI in general.

But honestly I actually think the grease pencil stuff if it's done right, and if it catches on with other anime studios could be a game changer. If they use freestyle and some sort of cell shading on the 3d elements, and grease pencil for 2d characters, or at least to stylize the 3D backgrounds and props, it could go a long way to battle the problem anime 3DCGI has.

I still think Toku 3DCGI is a lost cause though.
